Why You Should Never Ignore the Damage on Your Vehicle

So you've been involved in a collision. Whether you struck another vehicle or a stationary object is irrelevant at this point: the fact is your vehicle is damaged. What's more, even though it may still be operable, it needs to be repaired back to its original condition. Neglecting repairs might seem convenient at the moment, but can lead to bigger problems down the road. It can be tempting to just "roll with it" and ignore the damage to your vehicle. This temptation can be particularly strong when it appears that the damage is only superficial and does not affect the utility of your vehicle. However, this is a dangerous game to play. Here is more information.

What only appears to be cosmetic may be structural

First, it is not uncommon for the damage to a vehicle to appear to be merely cosmetic. Thus, you may take a look and think that the fender is only dented but the vehicle is in great operating condition. While this may sometimes be the case, many times it is not.

Even damage that appears to be minor can mask a hidden and significant issue with your vehicle. When a vehicle is involved in a collision, the shock of the impact can travel throughout the entire vehicle. Thus, you may have an evident dent in the front fender—and a hidden crack in the frame. To ignore the issue can lead to disaster, as the hidden damage can worsen over time until it leads to a serious and sometimes dangerous condition.

Serious damage may not be evident to an untrained eye

Complicating matters further is the fact that sometimes your vehicle can sustain serious damage, and that damage may not even be apparent to a layperson. It takes the trained eye of a professional to properly inspect the vehicle and diagnose any hidden damage—damage that has the potential of developing into something more dangerous and expensive.
